As a new semester commences, more bright minds arrive from all over the world to collaborate at Aalborg University’s campuses in Copenhagen, Aalborg and Esbjerg. In the coming weeks, international researchers will arrive from USA, Colombia, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Indonesia and China and many new, wonderful adventures will begin.
We hope you will all join us in making our new colleagues welcome.
In the coming months, a multitude of opportunities are available for both new-comers and established colleagues to meet across the university. Starting this week, International House North Denmark (IHND) invites you and your families to join Diversity Evening on Thursday 5 September and the New to North Denmark Fair on Saturday 21 September.
On Thursday 19 September, the International Staff Unit will host the first social-meet up of the semester, where all AAU staff and PhD students are welcome to attend. At this event, we plan to establish a new steering committee for our International Club, consisting of AAU colleagues, who wish to help strengthen the international community at AAU, as well as assist with the facilitation of our upcoming events in the coming semesters. We are very much dependent on your support to be able to continue hosting our social events and we sincerely hope to see many of you there 😊
We would also like to bring your attention to Aalborg University’s Institute for Advanced Study in PBL (IAS PBL), who will be marking AAU’s 50th anniversary with a week dedicated to problem-based learning in week 47 (18 – 22 November). All events will be in English, offering you an amazing opportunity to gain insight into, and inspiration on, how you can work successfully with PBL.
Moreover, we strongly encourage you to check the many local events happening in your city.
Comedy Stop, an international comedy festival that usually only takes place in Copenhagen, is coming to Aalborg as well from 5 – 8 September. Furthermore, Gigantium in Aalborg invites everyone to “Idrætsdøgnet” (24-hour sports), where various sports and activities - including basketball, badminton, dance, chess, taekwondo, kendo, ice disco and curling to name but a few - are available to try for free. For more information and to sign up check out: IDRÆTSDØGNET | Facebook.
If you have a partner or spouse, look here!
On 1 October International Staff Unit will host our annual AAU+1 spouse and partner welcome meeting. The event, which is for both newly arrived and well-established partners and spouses, is a wonderful opportunity to network and learn about life in Denmark. The welcome meeting also includes a cultural awareness workshop aimed specifically at spouses settling and/or looking for work in Denmark.
Last but not least, International House North Denmark (IHND) also offers a Spouse Space Programme for accompanying spouses and partners. The programme focuses on career development and networking. If your spouse is looking for work in Denmark, or simply just wish to extend his/her network, we highly recommend joining the programme.
Our best wishes for a wonderful semester; we look forward to seeing you at our events 😊
